Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of school is Blake Farm Dayschool?
We are non-denominational academic school. We are located in the Education Wing of Beth Sholom Temple in Fredericksburg. We are not affiliated with the Temple, nor any other religious organization.

What ages do you serve in your programs?
Preschool is open to students who are between 3 and 5. We also accept children who are 2.5 if we find them to be ready for school. The dayschool program is open to students who are in Kindergarten through 5th grade. We plan to grow each year with our students up through 8th grade.

Who are your teachers
Our teachers are dedicated professionals with experience in the field of education. They come from a variety of backgrounds, including public and private schools, other area preschools, and from across the country.

What foreign languages do you teach?
Our main language is Spanish, as we learn this one together as a class, but students may work independently on other languages. Please inquire if you have a specific need.

Is there an application fee?
We do not charge an application fee. Anyone may apply. An interview with staff members is required, and once accepted into the program, a registration fee of $150 per family plus $50 per child is required to hold the student's spot in the program.

What are your ratios and class sizes?
In our preschool program, our ratio is 1:5 and our pre-K is 1:10; with a maximum of 10 students per class. In our Dayschool program, our ratio is 1:12 in K and 1:14 in the upper grades, with a maximum of 14 students per class. Aids and Parent Volunteers are available to assist in some of the Dayschool classes.

Do you offer Before and After school Care?
We now offer After School Care from 1:15 to 5:30 for preschool and 3:30 to 5:30 for Dayschool students.

What are your hours of operation?
We operate Monday through Friday from 8:00 to 4:00pm. The Preschool operates from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm and the Dayschool operates from 8:30am to 3:15pm. After school programs can run later and are determined by the instructor.

Are there any special considerations for operating inside the Temple?
Because we are in the Temple, Blake Farm Dayschool will observe certain Jewish holidays, as the Temple has priority use of the building on those days. They are Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and the third night of Passover. Depending on when they fall in the calendar, we will be closed on those days. Please check our calendar or contact the school for more information concerning our holidays.

Another consideration affects student lunches. Any foods brought into the building are requested to be kosher-styled foods. Please do not pack ham, pork, or shellfish in student lunches.

Is this a licensed and accredited school?
Blake Farm Dayschool is licensed with the Department of Social Services. We are not accredited at this time. We will seek accreditation at a future date.
