Our Mission for Dayschool Innovations, Inc.

To create community-based schools that offer individualize, differentiated instruction in a student centered atmosphere. We seek to also create an environment of learning and discovery which is stimulating, supportive, caring and fun, and to foster a lifelong love of learning in all individuals.

Our Vision for Dayschool Innovations, Inc and Blake Farm Dayschool

We seek to ensure that, in education, everyone gets what he or she needs. Students come with different needs and learning styles, which sometimes are not provided for in a traditional environment.

We utilize the methods of traditional education, but we seek to evolve it into a more productive means of educating students. Our model includes smaller classes, a community based approach to education, differentiated instruction with a focus on learning styles, top-down learning, and focusing on nurturing active learners and critical thinkers.

Our teachers act as facilitators in the classroom, helping students to master basic concepts and encouraging them to explore beyond those concepts to discover their interests. We help our students appreciate their learning styles and develop strategies for coping with other learning styles. In helping to develop this self-actualization within our students; to make them masters of their own education, we give students the power to take control of their destiny and to succeed in life.

A Blake Farm education prepares students for the future. It is a future that will require them to be fully aware of their learning style, values, motivations, capabilities and strengths. A Blake Farm education encourages students to play an active role in their future, to be responsible for their own learning, and to achieve their goals.

Curriculum

Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten

The main focus of our curriculum is to provide students with hands-on knowledge of their world at a level appropriate for their educational needs. Daily preschool activities such as Arts and Crafts, Story Time and Indoor/Outdoor Play will be structured around units such as Bugs, Gardening, Weather, All About Me, Family, Farming, Summer, and Shapes. We will also work on life skills such as Potty Training, Good Table Manners and How To Be A Good Friend. Activities will be hands-on, requiring the children to do, show and experiment.

Areas of instruction include the sciences, technology, foreign language, music, arts, mathematics, reading and language development, writing skills, history, and social development.

Units are taught through interdisciplinary instruction. Subjects feed into and support one another. Technology is used as a means to reach our educational goals. Throughout, our focus is to encourage students to tackle even the most complicated concepts by breaking them down, seeking out patterns, finding connections and building upon what they have already learned.

Dayschool

Our Dayschool curriculum is designed to give students active, hands-on experience in science, math, and technology. Students focus on developing foundational skills while pursuing advanced interests. Students are encouraged to develop critical thinking skills, observational skills and to communicate effectively through written, oral, and presentational skills.

Within the classroom, teachers focus on thematic teaching, tying subjects together to effectively enhance learning. A topdown approach to content allows students to take in advanced information as they are interested and ready. We utilize a spiraling and tiered method of instruction in which students revisit many content areas throughout their academic experience. This allows them to build continually on what they already know and gives them confidence in areas in which they are already familiar.

Differentiated instruction allows students to experience the same subjects in formats more fitting to their learning styles. It also enables students to progress beyond the basic objectives in different areas as they are ready.

We encourage all students to become active learners; to take in information from the world around them. Students learn to discern patterns in their environments. Information is synthesized from data. Information becomes knowledge when students can draw conclusions from the information they have collected. And knowledge, when applied, becomes wisdom.
